The Freedom of Information (FoI) Act promotes access to information and enhances citizens’ capacity to demand accountability. The Act was enacted in Nigeria in 2011 but there has been little uptake by non-state actors and a low level of compliance by public institutions.

The Rule of Law and Anti-Corruption (RoLAC) programme worked with stakeholders to support the development of FoI Act implementation tools. The programme has also increased awareness about the benefits of the Act towards strengthening responsive and transparent governance.
